Helping You Get Back To Life

Parkinson’s Disease

The symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease can start off very mild. A common early symptom is a tremor in a hand, usually when you are at rest. These types of tremors can also occur in your legs or jaw. Since the tremors are most apparent during rest, they usually go away when moving. Your Wieber Therapist will work with you to manage your individual situation — as you begin, and if your condition changes. You are not alone in this!

What is the LSVT BIG Program?

This treatment is administered using a protocol that was developed specifically to address the unique movement impairments for people with Parkinson’s Disease. The protocol is intensive, with many repetitions of core movements that you use in your everyday life.

Your therapist will truly help you stay as active and independent as possible. You will be taught special exercises and techniques to improve your symptoms. Depending on the nature or severity of your Parkinson’s Disease, your treatment program may focus on treatment to help you:

  • Improve your overall fitness and strength
  • Develop the best way to get in and out of bed, chairs, cars, etc.
  • Improve your coordination with walking
  • Improve your hand movement ability
  • Decrease your risk of falls

At Wieber Physical Therapy, we have two Physical Therapists and one Occupational Therapist who are highly trained in the LSVT Big program for Parkinson’s Disease. Our goal is to guarantee you are treated through a hands-on approach following a customized treatment plan that’s best for you.
